ITV Lorraine Kelly fumes ‘don’t get me started’ over budget cuts

Lorraine Kelly couldn’t hide her irritation while discussing the day’s news on Wednesday’s edition of Good Morning Britain.

In the latest instalment, presenters Susanna Reid and Ed Balls caught up with Lorraine, aged 65, to preview what was in store on her own programme.

But the conversation quickly shifted to current events, and Lorraine didn’t hold back her displeasure at one particular story, exclaiming: “Don’t get me started!”

The topic at hand was the revelation that Bristol might see the end of its lollipop people due to city council cost-cutting measures.

Bristol City Council has put forward a proposal to “remove funding” for school crossing patrols from April as part of their budget plans, with the discontinuation of lollipop services potentially saving £314,000 annually, reports the Daily Record.

Susanna light-heartedly remarked that Lorraine was “up in arms” about the matter, prompting Lorraine to respond: “Lollipop people, what’s going on?

“I mean for goodness sake, I know everyone’s got to make cutbacks, but there are some things that are sacred in this country and it’s lollipop people. Apart from the safety thing, it’s just, no! I love crossing over with a lollipop lady, or a lollipop man, I want them to stay!”

This prompted Ed to point out: “It’s supposed to be for children?” to which Lorraine replied: “I know that Ed, I know, but I’m young at heart!”

Teasing the Scottish host, Ed added: “While you’re here, what’s your view on potholes…” to which Lorraine replied: “Potholes are outrageous, you know, listen, don’t get me started! You do not want to get me started!”

Ed Balls quipped in jest: “I just got you started! ” to which Lorraine Kelly responded: “You know which buttons to press! But stop this with the lollipop people.”

In other moments from Good Morning Britain, anchor Susanna Reid interrupted Wednesday’s programme to report ‘breaking news’.

On a recent episode of the ITV morning show, Susanna, aged 54, alongside co-presenter Ed Balls revealed some urgent news updates, stating that the inflation rate had seen a decrease to 2.5%.

Susanna announced: “So our breaking news this morning is on the economy and the rate at which prices are rising, official figures released in the last few minutes show that the inflation rate fell to 2.5% in December, down from 2.6% in November. So that is better news than city analysts had expected.”

Ed, who is 57, followed up by saying: “It comes at a time when the pound has plummeted and the cost of government borrowing has soared.”
