Fans of The Masked Singer flooded the show with complaints as host Joel Dommett announced there would be no unmasking at the end of the first show. Six celebrities out of the 12 have already performed, and Spag Bol and Teeth were announced as being in the bottom two.
The celebrity panel of Davina McCall, Jonathan Ross, Mo Gilligan, Maya Jama and Mo Farah decided to save Teeth, meaning viewers were set to see Spag Bol reveal their true identity. But as the panel and audience chanted ‘Take it off’, host Joel Dommett rushed on to the stage.
He told the audience: “Wait a second everybody. Hold up, hold up, hold up. There’s only one way to find out who’s behind the mask and apparently it’s to come back tomorrow night!”

It quickly led to boos from the audience as the celebrity panel also looked gutted. Joel added: “I’ll be honest I quite like being the villain. Make sure you join us tomorrow night…we’ll have six new performance and not one but two unmaskings.”
Outraged viewers said the ITV show had been ‘ruined’, with some even threatening to boycott it completely. They took to X, formerly Twitter, to complain.
One wrote: “How to lose viewers….,” while a second commented: “THATS LOW! Saturday night ruined!!!#MaskedSingerUK.”
A third echoed: “Absolutely ruined the format of the show doing that. Producers need sacking!” A fourth wrote: “I’m going to boycott #maskedsingeruk after tonight. Long a** show with too many long advert breaks and they didn’t even unmask. I’ll be watching after the show airs so I can forward all the b******.”
“No unmasking? FEWMIN’ #MaskedSingerUK,” another said, while another fan wrote: “This is b*******, I’d planned to watch tomorrow but this desperate unmask in the next show viewer grab is POOR.”
Another shared: “don’t you EVER stop an unmasking ever again and roll it over to the next show! That’s actually disgusting!” An eighth fan added: “#MaskedSingerUk the best part of the show is seeing who the celeb under the mask is at the end!! You’ve just ruined the show for me and probably many others!!!”
The Masked Singer is back tomorrow night (Sunday, January 5) on ITV1 at the earlier time of 6.30pm.
