Maya Jama has declared she’s content being ‘happy in the friendship zone’ with her former flame Stormzy, as she moves on with Manchester City footballer Rúben Dias. The Love Island presenter, who is joining the panel of The Masked Singer judges tonight (January 4) for the first time, has reportedly been seeing Rúben since last month and was spotted enjoying a cosy New Year’s Eve date with him.
The 30 year old TV host and the 27 year old sportsman first crossed paths at the MTV Europe Music Awards held at Co-op Live arena in Manchester on November 10, shortly after Maya’s split from Stormzy. Maya and Stormzy had a long-term relationship before surprising fans with their breakup in 2019.
They rekindled their romance in August 2023 but ultimately decided to part ways for good last year. They informed their followers via social media that they ‘tried, and it didn’t work, and that’s okay,’ also assuring them that they will remain friends.

In a recent interview, Maya confirmed her happiness in the ‘friendship zone’ with Stormzy. When questioned about the possibility of reuniting, Maya responded: “No, I think we’re happy in this friendship zone.”
Speaking to The Guardian, she commented: “I think it’s nice that people love him for being cute and love me for being cute, and when two people you like come together then people get excited by it. That’s just what happens in the celebrity world, don’t you think? “, reports the Mirror.
Football ace Rúben set tongues wagging about his relationship with Maya when he shared an image of the pair enjoying a sunset on social media. In the photo, he donned a hoody and trousers, his arm around a woman sporting a skirt and trainers, with both facing away from the camera, keeping her identity under wraps.
He also posted several other pictures from their holiday with friends. Paying tribute to a friend’s special day, Rúben captioned it: “Happy new year everyone and happy 30th to the one and only @ivandias03 ‘Lo que viene…vai…’.”
An insider divulged to The Sun: “Maya and Ruben swapped details at the EMAs and have chatted since, but things went up a gear in early December. When Ruben got injured and had to miss the congested new year fixtures, he jumped at the chance to see in 2025 with Maya in Spain.”
Adding substance to the rumours, they remarked: “Spending New Year’s Eve together was a real step forward in their relationship.”
Further fuelling speculation, the source noted that Maya and Rúben clicked instantly, saying they “get on really well” and “make a gorgeous couple,” whilst cautioning, “it’s early days”.
