ITV’s favourite chef, James Martin, was back at the helm today, hosting The Inbetweeners’ very own James Buckley on James Martin’s Saturday Morning.
Buckley, alongside his wife Clair Meek, with whom he shares the mic on their podcast In Sickness and in Health, joined Martin in the kitchen.
On today’s menu, James whipped up a sumptuous ‘hearty and warming’ beef and ale pie. The meal featured melt-in-your-mouth slow-cooked beef bathed in an opulent ale and red wine sauce, encased in a crisp, golden puff pastry. On the side were silky, sweet carrots laced with star anise for that extra flavour.
The anticipation was palpable as Buckley eyed the delicious array before him while Martin crafted the mouth-watering dish, his hunger evident as his stomach audibly grumbled, reports the Express.
When the comforting creation was almost ready to serve, Martin began: “Right, so we’re just going to take our little pie. This is our pie with our beautiful filling…”

But Buckley couldn’t hold back, interjecting: “You are doing that so slow, James.”
Startled by the interruption, Martin responded: “Sorry mate.” Only then did Buckley confess: “I’m so hungry, I can’t wait for this. This looks absolutely amazing.”
Martin then explained: “We’ve got to make it look good for TV, you see?”
Not long after, Martin presented the finished plates to his eager guests, to the sound of applause from the crew.
“There we have it, your first dish: meat pie and carrots,” declared Martin, as the couple eagerly dug in.
Meek couldn’t hide her enthusiasm, and then Buckley chimed in with another playful remark, giving a glimpse into the behind-the-scenes of culinary TV programmes.
“You’re not about to do that TV thing where we have a couple of bites and then you take it away from me, are you?” he queried with feigned naivety, prompting laughter from Martin.

“No,” he responded: “You’re left with it but yeah, that’s the puff pastry and everything else – super tasty.”
Martin assured them that what they were sampling was “just the starter”, teasing that there was “more coming” for them to enjoy later on.
Among the other delectable creations whipped up by Martin on today’s episode were Welsh Rarebit with Bacon and Chutney, as well as his ‘Best Ever Bacon Butty’.
As the show progressed, viewers also saw him prepare blackened rice with squid, described as ‘combines rich, squid ink-infused rice, tender squid, and a surprise garlic butter centre, all wrapped in crispy breadcrumbs’.
Accompanied by a roasted red pepper sauce and a touch of creme fraiche, the dish appeared to transport the guests to gastronomic bliss.
James Martin’s Saturday Morning airs every Saturday at 9.30am on ITV.
