Jeremy Clarkson inundated with Diddly Squat farm complaint – but hits back

After Jeremy Clarkson announced his Diddly Squat farm shop would be closed for two more months, fans have hit out after not being able to make a winter visit.

While they knew the shop would be closed until January, Clarkson has now revealed that Diddly Squat will be closed for another month, not opening until March. The former Top Gear host has addressed the closure but being a savvy businessman has thought of a clever way not to disappoint fans and keep visitors flocking to the Cotswolds.

Clarkson took to social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, to clarify: “While it’s true that the farm shop at Diddly Squat is closed as usual until March, the farm shop at The Farmer’s Dog is very much open. Every day apart from Mondays and Tuesdays. You can grab a burger too and a pint.”

The buzz around his Oxfordshire venture surged after “Clarkson’s Farm” aired on Amazon Prime, offering viewers a glimpse into the challenges he faced after buying the farm in Chipping Norton.

Clarkson’s popularity in the area waved after thousands of tourists flocked to the village to try and visit the farm shop that was made famous in the show. When it first opened to the public the quiet area became suddenly plagued with traffic with dozens of cars lined up on both verges preventing locals from getting through.

After the farm shops closure, the 64-year-old is directing visitors to his newest venture, his pub The Farmers Dog. Formerly named The Windmill, Clarkson bought the inn for around £1 million last year and quickly began a major renovation. He has already fitted a new outdoor area with revamped canopy and more than 20 picnic tables to enjoy outdoor drinks.

His life as a landlord is set to be at the heart of the fourth season of his farming show as he navigates the fresh challenges away from Diddly Squat. The pub has already made some big changes after its doors were open for just four months.

A statement from The Farmer’s Dog said: “It’s been just four months since we opened our doors at The Farmer’s Dog and we are learning as we go and listening to your feedback, so here are our initial plans for 2025.

“As of January 3, you’ll be able to book at lunch. That’s right, you can now ensure you’ve got a spot. Get bookings whilst you can. As always, we will also leave some room every day for walk-ins too. We are now also going to open six whole days a week, Tuesday – Sunday and, as if that wasn’t enough, we are going to open our doors earlier, so you don’t have to queue waiting in the cold. The Hawkstone will be flowing from 11am.”

Fans shouldn’t expect to see the Top Gear trio reunite at The Farmer’s Dog after it was announced that James May and Richard Hammond have been officially put on the barred list. May responded: “He told me that, but I said to somebody, it’s like being banned from the golf club, being banned from somewhere where I wasn’t going to go anyway, so, what does it mean?”
