Fitness guru Joe Wicks has found himself hobbling into the new year on crutches with his foot encased in a medical boot after an unfortunate running accident earlier in the week. The 39-year-old fitness enthusiast recalled how he “rolled” his ankle while out for an early morning jog on New Year’s Eve, explaining that he bore “all” his weight on it.
The popular online personality disclosed that a subsequent x-ray showed he had suffered “ligament damage”. Joe broke the news to his followers on Tuesday afternoon via a candid Instagram post, which included a photograph of him with his new crutches and boot, alongside an x-ray of his injury, reports Express.co.uk.
In the post’s caption, Joe lamented that as a result of his ankle injury, he would have to miss a planned event at Virginia Water Lake in Surrey on New Year’s Day. In his message accompanying the images, the author said: “Happy New Year.

“Had a shocker this morning. Thought I’d end the year with a run. Was feeling inspired and hit the road in the dark at 6am. As I ran around the corner I rolled my ankle on the grass and put all of my weight onto it. So painful.”
Known widely as the Body Coach, Joe also told his fans about the ordeal of hopping back home on one foot. He described the whole episode as a “setback” and detailed his trip to the hospital following the accident.
Joe shared an update with his followers, saying: “Anyway bit of a setback. Went to the hospital for an X-ray because I thought it was fractured. Good news is that it’s not broken, just ligament damage.”
He then joked about his recovery process: “Codeine and ice for me today.” Regrettably, Joe announced he would have to cancel his upcoming walk at Windsor Great Park due to his injury.
He expressed his apologies to fans, promising: “Unfortunately this means I won’t be able to do my planned 5km walk around Virginia Lake tomorrow morning. So sorry I can’t make it. I was really looking forward to it. I’ll plan another one there as soon as I can.”

The presenter also reached out to ensure the message got across to those who might miss the announcement: “If you know anyone who was planning on coming along can you please tag them below or let them know today. I’m worried they won’t see it and will turn up. Thank you. Have a happy new year everyone.”
In response to his post, Joe received a flurry of supportive messages from his fans. One commented: “Get better soon.” Another offered reassurance: “The main thing is you are ok. I hope that you have a speedy recovery and a happy new year.”
A third conveyed their sympathies: “Ouch Joe! Wishing you speedy healing. Sending lots of love and strength.”
