Julia Bradbury swears by ‘double breakfast’ after cancer to fight type 2 diabetes fear

Beloved broadcaster Julia Bradbury has revealed how she eats a ‘double breakfast’ every day in a bid to help fight her fear of developing Type 2 diabetes.

Chatting to Davina McCall on a recent episode of her Begin Again podcast, the former Countryfile presenter revealed how she keeps to a nutritious two-course breakfast as she vies to stay healthy following a diagnosis of breast cancer four years ago.

Talking Davina through her first meal of the day, the 54-year-old said: “I do a double breakfast. I have eggs, I have avocado, I’ll have a bit of protein from the night before, maybe some left over chicken, free-range chicken or some sustainably caught fish.”

She added: “I’ll put that on my plate with my veggies, I drizzle my olive oil because it’s good for my cancer, (it’s) high in polyphenols, squeeze some lemon because it’s great for the veggies, mix of greens, big plate, I love it.”

But, Julia’s filling breakfast doesn’t end there as she said that once done with her ‘big plate’ she soon moves on to her dessert, saying that she likes to combine blueberries, nuts and seeds with a coconut yoghurt.

In addition to her nutritious double breakfast, Julia added that she has cut out snacking in-between meals because she “doesn’t want a sugary rollercoaster” and a “constant flat line of sugar”.

Prior to revealing what she likes to include in her two-course breakfast, Julia revealed that it comes on the back of being conscious about the risks of Type 2 diabetes and how it can increase the chances of developing cancer.

Julia first revealed in 2021 that she had been diagnosed with breast cancer, but has since undergone a mastectomy to remove a tumour.

Talking about the current prevalence in the UK of Type 2 diabetes, she said: “Type 2 diabetes is on the rise, it’s going up and up and up. It costs about £3,000 a year to take care of someone with Type 2 diabetes and at the moment you’ve got people as young as 30 who are being diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes.”
