Kirklees parents warned over school places as deadline approaches

Kirklees Council has issued a warning to parents across the district as a schools place deadline rapidly approaches.

The deadline to apply for primary or middle school places for September this year is coming later this month. If you have a child who is due to start Reception in September 2025, a child in infant school Year 2 who is moving to junior school, or a child in Year 5 at first school who is moving to middle school, then the deadline is approaching to apply for a place.

This deadline is at 11.59pm on Wednesday, January 15. Kirklees Council says the process is quick, easy and secure and must be done online through the council’s Parent Portal. If this is your first time using it then you will need to create an account.

You can find out which schools are known in your priority admission, or catchment, area and about other local schools. The website will also explain to you how places are allocated.

Parents are advised to apply for a first, second and third preference school in case places are not available at your first choices. The council advises at least one of these schools is in your catchment area.

Any applications received after January 15 will not be considered until all on-time applications have been processed. This means applying late can severely impact your chances of getting in to one of your preferred schools.
