Kirklees schools closed for fifth day as ice and snow cause more disruption

Dozens of schools across Kirklees remain closed on Friday after ice and snow caused a week of disruption.

Hundreds shut on Monday after severe snow in the region on Sunday and Monday. Many have stayed shut since with others reopening later in the morning for safety reasons.

After the snow came sub-zero temperatures which have added to the chaos and meant many remain shut for the fifth day. More are again opening late to allow staff and pupils more time to get to the site. The closures have left some parents furious.

Temperatures have fallen to -6c which have made conditions treacherous in many parts of Kirklees and the sub-zero temperatures are set to continue into the weekend.

Here is the list of schools closed or opening late:

• All Saints Catholic College – Closed

• Beaumont Primary Academy Closed

• Birkby Junior School Due to the icy conditions, school will open later between 9:30am and 10:00am

• Bywell CE (C) Junior School – Primary School 10am start

• Castle Hill School – Special educational needs (SEN) – All-through Closed

• Colne Valley High School – Secondary School Closed

• Eastborough Academy School will open for children at 10am due to weather conditions

• Field Lane J and I School – 10am start

• Fixby J and I School – Primary School Closed

• Golcar J I and N School – Primary School Late start 10am start on Friday 10th January due to the weather conditions

Should schools be allowed to close when it snows?

• Hanging Heaton CE (VC) J and I School – Primary School Late start. Children arriving on foot should arrive between 10 and 10.05 and be extra careful on the pavements. Those arriving in cars should do so between 10.10-10.15

• Headlands Primary – 9.30am start

• Healey J I and N School – Primary School Closed

• High Bank J I and N School – Primary School Late start – Due to ongoing icy conditions, school will open late at 10:30am on Friday 10th January. Use main entrance only. Staggered pick up times have been emailed out.

• Hinchliffe Mill J and I School – Primary School Late start – site opens at 9.50am

• Holme J and I School – Primary School Closed

• Honley High School – partially closed – open for year 10 and 11 only

• Kaye’s Academy – Primary School Late start Late start of 10:30am Friday 10th January. Kaye’s Club closing at 4:30pm this week.

• King James’s School – partially closed – open for year 10 and 11 only

• Kirkheaton Primary School Late start in place – school will have a staggered opening tome from 10am until 10.30am

• Linthwaite Clough J I and Early Years Unit – Primary School Partially closed ONLY to Reception and Nursery Children due to flood in our Early Years Unit. All year 1-6 children have staggered arrival times as follows: Classes 1 and 2 – 8:45am, Classes 3, 4 and 5 – 9:00am & Classes 6, 7 and 8 – 9:15am. All via the main office entrance. Pick up times are as follows: Classes 1 and 2 – 3:00pm, Classes 3, 4 and 5 – 3:15pm & Classes 6, 7 and 8 – 3:30pm all via the bottom playground.

• Mill Lane Primary School Closed

• Millbridge, A SHARE Primary Academy – Primary School Late start – children can arrive between 8.35am and 9.45am and enter school via the office door. No breakfast club on Thursday or Friday.

• Moldgreen Community Primary School Closed

• Moor End Academy – Secondary School Closed

• Mount Pleasant Primary – Closed

• Netherhall Learning Campus High School Closed

• Netherhall Learning Campus Junior School Closed

• Netherhall St James (VC) C of E Infant and Nursery School Closed

• Newsome Academy Late start – 10am

• Norristhorpe J and I School – Primary School Closed

• Orchard Primary Academy – Primary School Closed

• Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Primary School Late start Due to the continued cold temperatures and icy conditions school will open to children at the later time of 10.30am

• Purlwell Primary – Late start 10.15am

• Ravenshall School – Special School Closed

• Roberttown Primary – Late start 9.30am

• Shaw Cross I and N School – Primary School Closed

• Shelley First School – Primary School Late start School is open but with later start from 9 – 9.30am to allow safe travel and avoid congestion on arrival.

• Skelmanthorpe Primary – Late start 9.45am

• St Aidan’s Primary – Late start between 9.45am and 10.15am

• St Joseph’s Catholic Primary Dewsbury – Late start 9.30am
