Knife fight leaves two with stab wounds as violence erupts at home in Exeter

Two people have been hospitalised with suspected stab wounds after a fight at a property in Exeter early this morning, Thursday, January 2. A man in his 60s has been arrested following the incident.

Police were called to the scene in Durham Close, Exeter, around 5.30am after reports of a stabbing. Two men were involved in the violent altercation and a crime scene cordon remains in place as an investigation takes place.

A 62-year-old man from Exeter has been arrested on suspicion of Section 18 GBH. At the time of reporting, he remains in police custody.

Devon and Cornwall Police say that there is no wider threat to the public. Whipton Barton Road is closed in both directions. Follow our live blog here for the latest updates.

Police are appealing for anyone with information to come forward. Anyone who witnessed the incident, or who was in the area at the time is asked to call 101 quoting log 88 of January 2.

A spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police has said: “Police were called to Durham Close, Exeter, at around 5.30am on Thursday 2 January following reports of a stabbing.

“It was reported that two men were involved in an altercation at a property and both sustained suspected stab wounds. Officers attended the location and a scene guard was put in place. Both men were taken to hospital.

“A 62-year-old man from Exeter has been arrested on suspicion of section 18 GBH and remains with police at this time. Enquiries are ongoing. There is no wider threat to the public as a result of this incident.

“Anybody who witnessed anything in the area at around the time of the incident is asked to contact police on 101 or via our website quoting log 88 of 2 January.”
