Latest Met Office weather map update shows exact time snow will arrive in Yorkshire

Snow is on its way to Yorkshire, with a weather warning now in place from the Met Office.

According to the amber warning, the snow is expected to arrive later today, with heavy snowfall predicted to cause disruption. There is expected to be disruption to services, roads and public transport in many areas.

The Met Office said: “Snow will reach the south of the warning area later Saturday, then spread north across the rest of the area through Sunday morning. Snow will be persistent and heavy at times, and will likely drift in brisk easterly winds, especially over higher ground.

“Much of the warning area can expect 3-7 cm of snow. Areas above about 150 m will likely see 15-30 cm, with 40 cm for ground above 300 m, before snow begins to ease and clear by the end of Sunday. For some lower-lying areas, such as the Vale of York, snow may mix with rain at times making estimations of snow depths here more difficult. Regardless, travel will likely be difficult, with power line icing an additional impact.”

Now, weather maps from the Met Office have revealed exactly when the snow will hit Yorkshire.

The snow will move up from the south, with it first arriving in Sheffield and the Peak District at around 9pm tonight.

As the evening progresses, the snow front will rapidly move to the north, particularly in western regions, as Huddersfield is hit by snow at around 9.30pm. By 10pm, the snow will also be in Bradford and in Skipton in North Yorkshire.

By 11pm, the snow will cover most of the county, stretching all the way from Sheffield in the south up to Ripon. Leeds will also be seeing snow, as will Wakefield.

However, many more eastern regions, like Doncaster and York, will instead be seeing some rain at this time.

At midnight, Doncaster will also fall to the snow as the heavy snow period begins. It should then begin to fall in York at around 2am, although there may be some snow before then in the area.

The snow will then blanket most of Yorkshire all night, until it begins to recede throughout the morning. Yorkshire will continue to see snow in many places by midday on Sunday, but places like Sheffield and York will instead be seeing rain at this time.

By Sunday evening, the snow will have ceased and rain will instead be falling across the county.
