Latest travel advice from Manchester Airport amid A555 closure and tram delays

Manchester Airport has reminded passengers to plan their journeys carefully to the airport as there continues to be disruption to road and rail transport following the severe weather.

Heavy rain on New Year’s Eve resulted in localised flooding across Greater Manchester, while temperatures plummeted overnight causing icy conditions today, January 2.

The A555 Airport Link Road from Ringway Road West to Stanley Green Roundabout and Bramhall Oil Terminal Roundabout remains closed due to flooding following the heavy rain on Wednesday.

Tram services between Victoria and the airport are now operating as normal, after the line was closed due to flooding. But the Bee Network has warned that there are still “severe delays across the line” due to “significant levels of ice on the overhead lines”.

Ticket acceptance is in place on the 23, 25, 41, 43, 85a, 101, 103 and 368 buses, and Northern rail services between Manchester Airport and Manchester Piccadilly. Rail services between Manchester Airport and Manchester Piccadilly are operating as usual.

Manchester Airport told the Manchester Evening News that the airport is operating as usual. Passengers are urged to plan their journeys to the airport carefully, allow plenty of time to get there and monitor updates to public transport timetables closely.

In their latest statement posted on X on Tuesday evening, the airport said: “UK weather forecasts indicate the possibility of some unsettled conditions over the next few days. Winter weather can be unpredictable, and our teams are closely monitoring conditions to ensure our operations run smoothly.

“Our services remain unaffected, but we do recommend passengers check directly with their airline for any updates and stay informed about public transport, which may also be impacted by adverse weather.”
