Liam Payne honoured with ‘beautiful’ tribute as fans left in tears over ‘perfect’ gesture

Liam Payne has been honoured with a “beautiful” tribute. The former One Direction star tragically fell to his death from the third floor of a hotel in October 2024, aged just 31.

An autopsy revealed that Liam died instantly from “multiple traumatic injuries” leading to “internal and external haemorrhage.”But now, nearly three months on, Clevedon Pier has unveiled a plaque dedicated to Liam for a poignant reason.

Liam and his ex-One Direction bandmates, Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, Niall Horan and Zayn Malik famously shot parts of their music video for ‘You and I’ on the pier on March 25, 2014.

Posting on X, previously known as Twitter, the official account for Clevedon Pier shared a photo of the plaque, alongside the original documenting their day on the pier. The new plaque reads: “Remembering Liam Payne – One Direction. 29.08.1993 – 16.10.2024.”

It also features the lyrics: “If you’re lost just look for me, you’ll find me in the region of the summer stars,” taken from the band’s song, ‘Walking in the Wind’, reports the Mirror.

Captioning their post, Clevedon Pier said: “We are pleased to share that there is now a plaque in memory of Liam Payne on Clevedon Pier. The beautiful plaque is inscribed with lyrics from one of Liam’s favourite songs. @onedirection recorded their award winning video You and I on #ClevedonPier.”

The post, which has now surpassed 2,000 likes, was quickly swamped with comments from Liam’s fans. One fan exclaimed: “Beautiful! ” Another emotionally wrote: “You made me cry but this is such a good gesture thank you so much for him, his family and friends,” while a third shared: “This is beyond beautiful and so mindful. Thank you very much.”

An additional tribute read: “Beautiful! A perfect tribute to Liam and the perfect choice of song. Thank you from a fan.”

The outpouring of messages comes in the wake of anger from Liam’s supporters after his close pal, Roger Nores, took legal action against Payne’s bereaved father, Geoff.

Nores has found himself at the heart of a US defamation lawsuit, a name that has surfaced repeatedly during inquiries into the circumstances surrounding Liam’s passing. Following the tragedy, five individuals faced charges related to his demise, including Mr Nores, who stands accused of manslaughter.

Argentine prosecutors argue he “abandoned” Liam and neglected his duty of care. In a formal complaint submitted in Florida last Wednesday, Nores asserts that declarations made under oath by Liam’s dad to authorities in Argentina were “false, contained material omissions, and many parts were not based on personal knowledge”.

The contentious remarks pertain to claims that Payne was entrusted to the care of Mr Nores and his girlfriend, Kate Cassidy, “due to his addictions”, as cited in the filed lawsuit. Court documents have challenged the portrayal of Mr Nores’ relationship with the deceased singer, emphasising that they shared a “dear mutual friendship” but clarifying that he “never had a legal duty of care” towards him.
