‘Life-changing’ five-minute cleaning hack that stops clutter building up

For those of us with busy schedules, maintaining a clean and tidy home can often fall to the wayside.

It seems like there just aren’t enough hours in the day to do everything we need to, and a cluttered space only adds to this stress.

The concept of a ‘Sunday reset’ is huge on social media, which involves dedicating a few hours to cleaning your house on the last day of the week to prepare for the new one.

However, this simply isn’t feasible for many people – and who wants to spend their precious time cleaning when they could be relaxing or spending time with family and friends?

Fortunately, a woman on TikTok has discovered the secret to keeping your space neat and clutter-free – and it only takes a few minutes each day, reports the Express.

Lifestyle influencer Leah Pagel, a self-proclaimed ‘former messy girl’ with over 82k followers, claims that there are a few simple tricks that are ‘genuinely life-changing’ when it comes to maintaining a clean home.

And these tips aren’t drastic – they’re more about developing small daily habits to prevent excessive mess from accumulating.

One of her suggestions includes taking as little as five minutes at the end of each day to perform a ‘closing shift’ on your house before you retire for the night.

This could be as straightforward as fluffing the sofa cushions, putting away dishes, or wiping down the bathroom sink – any small and manageable task that doesn’t consume too much time.

She explains that this strategy removes the need to dedicate an entire Sunday to a ‘reset’, freeing up more time for enjoyable activities.

In a TikTok video, she advised: “Instead of waiting until Sunday to clean everything, take 5-10 minutes at the end of every day to do a ‘closing shift’.

“There’s nothing better than waking up to a clean home! And it feels so much more manageable than a big weekly reset.”

She also shared another simple yet effective tip for keeping your home in order in 2025: make the most of your time while cooking.

Leah suggested: “Water boiling? Unload the dishwasher. Pizza in the oven? Throw in a load of laundry.”

As she showed off her breakfast, she added: “I make this yoghurt bowl every morning and I unload the dishwasher when the frozen berries are defrosting in the microwave.

“It’s a minute of my day that I would have been standing around wasting anyways.”
