Nespresso machine owners, whether they’ve been brewing for ages or just unwrapped one over Christmas, might find it pretty annoying when all they have are ‘big’ coffee capsules but crave just an espresso shot.
The Nespresso Vertuo coffee machine comes equipped with technology that reads the barcode on each capsule, fine-tuning its settings to brew the perfect cup based on that specific coffee. It can whip up everything from a single espresso to a double, and larger cups of your favourite brewed beans.
However, there’s a nifty trick for those who want to enjoy a double espresso even when armed only with a larger pod.
TikTok user and online content creator Mark James has taken to the platform to share a ‘double click’ hack with his 25.6k followers, which he claims will “revolutionise your Nespresso coffee game”.
Mark says on the vid that his Nespresso Vertuo Pop is great and offers amazing flavours in the various pods, but they tend to be “always in a bigger cup size”, while he prefers a double espresso.
Great news though: with his clever workaround, any pod can be transformed into a double espresso.
Demonstrating the hack, he advised that you should insert the large pod and instead of pressing the start button once, you need to “quickly double tap and it will turn blue. That’s going to give you a double espresso shot rather than a long cup shot which is an absolute game-changer because it opens up all the flavours of the long cup pods and making double espressos and lattes and things like that,” he elaborated.
Regrettably for Nespresso enthusiasts, this trick doesn’t work on every machine. It only functions on the newer models of Nespresso Vertuo, such as the Next and Pop.
However, you can still modify the volume of water by halting the brew cycle. Simply press the start button again when you wish to stop. It’s not exactly the same as the concentrated extraction of ‘expert mode’ in the newer machines, but it’s still useful to know how to do.
