LIVE: Forensics descend on Salford street with murder investigation underway – latest updates

Police and forensics are working on a Salford street where a man was found dead at a property. A murder investigation is underway following the death of a man in his 50s, who was found at an address on Hope Hey Lane, in Little Hulton.

Officers were called out to the scene at around 7.30am on Sunday (January 12) following concerns for a person’s welfare. A post-mortem found the man suffered injuries ‘consistent with an assault’, Greater Manchester Police confirmed yesterday (Monday).

A woman in her 40s has been arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in custody this morning. Police are in attendance on Hope Hey Lane for a third day, with a GMP car and a van seen parked on the street this morning.

Residents were told to expect an increased police presence this week following the incident. Detective Chief Inspector Neil Higginson, from GMP’s Major Incident Team (MIT), said on Monday: “Sadly, following the discovery of a body at a property in Little Hulton, we have now launched a murder investigation, and we have a team of detectives working around the clock to understand the circumstances.

“We do not believe there to be a threat to the wider public, but you will likely see an increased presence of police in your area whilst we conduct further enquiries. If you have any information which may assist our investigation, or any dashcam, CCTV, or doorbell footage from the area in the last 24 hours, please get in touch with us.

“No matter how small the information may seem, it could be crucial to our investigation.” Information can be passed on to police online or by calling 101, quoting log number 650 of January 12, 2025, or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
