LIVE: Street taped off in Chorlton as man fighting for life after ‘stabbing’ – latest updates

Officers are spending a second day at the scene of a ‘suspected stabbing’ in Chorlton which left a man fighting for his life. Greater Manchester Police says it received reports of an altercation, believed to be a robbery, on Nicolas Road at 7.54pm on Sunday (December 29).

A man was rushed to hospital from the scene with serious injuries. In an update issued this afternoon (Monday), GMP said the victim, aged 48, was left in a life-threatening condition. He is receiving treatment in hospital.

It’s believed he was injured in an ‘altercation’ close to an approved premises (bail hostel) on Nicolas Road. The Manchester Evening News understands the incident is being investigated as a suspected stabbing.

A 46-year-old man had since been arrested on suspicion of assault in connection with the incident. He remains in custody for questioning. The incident has been described as isolated.

Detective Inspector Shauna Hayden, from GMP’s City of Manchester district, said: “Officers are on the scene fully investigating all aspects of this shocking incident that has left a man with serious injuries in hospital. While our work so far has secured an arrest, we are now appealing for anyone with any relevant information to please come forward.

“If you saw anything or heard something from around the time of the incident, I would urge you to get in touch, as your assistance could be vital to getting the answers the victim in this attack deserves.”
