Engineering works on the Mildmay line will affect London Overground passengers this winter, with partial closures until late March on six weekends. The works will update sections of the track that have suffered from general wear and tear to reduce future delays.
The line comprises the London Overground route between Stratford and Richmond. It also splits at Willesden Junction to serve Clapham Junction via West Brompton.
The works will see 675 metres of worn-out tracks replaced near Stratford. Heavy freight trains’ intensive use contributed to the required upgrades. Network Rail has said the work will reduce the chance of faults in the future, with new rails, sleepers, and ballasts being added.
New durable wheel timbers, expected to last up to 50 years, will also be installed to hold trains in place while going across bridges. The 20 new timbers will be added on a bridge over Chalk Farm Road, west of Camden Road station.
TfL and Network Rail have apologised for the disruption caused by the partial closures

Simon Milburn, infrastructure director for Network Rail Anglia, said: “We’re really sorry for the disruption, but there are lots of vital jobs that we simply can’t get done whilst trains are running. We’ll be making the very most of our time on track to help keep this part of the railway safe and reliable.”
Network Rail will also be carrying out targeted maintenance along the line during these works to help minimise future delays. These include fixing defects on the track and overhead line between Camden Road and Stratford, as well as replacing points to allow trains to change tracks near Stratford. The line and level of the track is also planned to be restored.
