It comes after Greater Manchester Police received reports of a robbery on Nicolas Road shortly before 8pm on Sunday (December 29). A man was rushed to hospital from the scene with serious injuries.

In an update issued this morning (December 30), GMP confirmed that a 46-year-old man had been arrested on suspicion of assault in connection with the incident. He remains in custody for questioning today.

A forensics tent is in place at the scene, near Oswald Road. Neighbours described seeing emergency services ‘cramped around a car and ushering people away’ following the incident.

One eyewitness said: “We just saw all the blue flashing lights about 7.50pm. We ignored them for a bit but then looked out and there were ambulances and about four police cars. We saw someone get whisked off in an ambulance with a police escort so assumed somebody had been attacked.
