A man has been charged with attacking a pensioner in a Birmingham road, with his victim left fighting for his life. An 82-year-old man was left in a critical condition after he was ‘attacked’ in Soho Road in Handsworth on Tuesday (January 16) afternoon while waiting for a number 74 bus.
The alleged attack took place close to the junction with Boulton Road at around 3.30pm with emergency services called to the scene. A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We were called at 3.34pm on Tuesday to reports of an assault on Soho Road in Birmingham. One ambulance attended the scene.
“Upon arrival we found an elderly man with potentially serious injuries. He received treatment at the scene before being conveyed to hospital for further assessment.”

A 43-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of wounding on Thursday (January 16). Now Muntahar Ahmed, 43, of no fixed address has now been charged with wounding. His victim remains in a critical condition in hospital.
In a statement, a spokesperson for West Midlands Police said: “We’ve charged a man after an 82-year-old man was left seriously injured in Handsworth earlier this week. Muntahar Ahmed was arrested in connection with an attack on the elderly man in Soho Road at around 3.30pm on Tuesday (January 14).
“The 43-year-old, of no fixed address, has now been charged with wounding. He has been remanded to appear before Birmingham Magistrates Court tomorrow (18 January). The injured man remains in a critical condition in hospital.
