Forensics experts were today scouring a south Manchester suburb a day after a reports of a robbery which left a man fighting for life following what police have described as a ‘shocking’ attack close to a bail hostel.
Officers are spending a second day at the scene of an ‘altercation’ which left a man seriously injured in Chorlton. Greater Manchester Police received reports of a robbery on Nicolas Road shortly before 8pm on Sunday (December 29). A man, aged 48, was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries.
It is believed he was injured in a suspected stabbing close to a bail hostel on Nicolas Road. A 46-year-old man had since been arrested on suspicion of assault in connection with the incident.
A forensic tent remains in place at the scene this morning (Monday, December 30). Residents have been told that a large emergency services presence is set to continue ‘for some time’.
In a new statement released by GMP on Monday afternoon, detectives have said at around 7.54pm last night officers responded to reports of an ‘altercation’ on Nicolas Road. Police believe it was a robbery.
During the incident, it is believed two men attacked another man, aged 48, leaving him with serious life-threatening injuries, according to GMP.
The victim remains in hospital in a critical condition. One of the alleged attackers is reported to have used an e-bike to escape.

One man, aged 46, has been arrested on suspicion of assault. “He remains in custody for questioning,” said GMP.
A nearby property is being examined by officers as part of the ongoing work, said the force which described the attack as ‘an isolated incident with no wider threat to the community’.
Police patrols have been stepped up in Chorlton ‘to provide reassurance for local residents’.
As the investigation into the attack continued, police are appealing for anyone with any information to come forward, including any witnesses or anyone with dashcam, CCTV, or doorbell footage which may assist.
Detective Inspector Shauna Hayden, from GMP’s City of Manchester division, said: “Officers are on the scene fully investigating all aspects of this shocking incident that has left a man with serious injuries in hospital.
“While our work so far has secured an arrest, we are now appealing for anyone with any relevant information to please come forward.
