Man suffers punctured lung as mass brawl breaks out on seafront

A man has been hospitalised after suffering a punctured lung following a large fight involving up to 20 people. Police were called to reports of an altercation around 1.20am on Wednesday, January 1, which involved mostly teenagers in the area of Marine Parade in Lyme Regis, Dorset.

Three people suffered injuries as a result of the brawl, including a man in his 50s . He was was hospitalised with a punctured lung and fractured ribs but has since been discharged, police have said.

Police Constable George Harris, of West Dorset police, said: “We have been carrying out a number of enquiries into this incident as we seek to identify those involved and have already spoken to a number of people in connection with the matter.

“We understand there were a number of people in the area at the time of this disturbance and I am keen to speak to any witnesses who have not already contacted police. We would also like to hear from anyone who may have captured any footage of this incident on their mobile phones.”
