Man uses AI to apply for 1,000 jobs – and is startled by what happens next

A man has ignited a fiery debate after boasting about using artificial intelligence (AI) to apply for 1,000 jobs as he slept.

While some hailed the tactic as genius, others condemned it as ‘unethical’, suggesting it indicates a propensity for cutting corners at work.

The individual shared his job-seeking strategy on Reddit, saying: “I used AI to apply for 1,000 jobs and I got 50 interviews. All of this while I was sleeping! In just one month, this method helped me secure around 50 interviews. The tailored CVs and cover letters, customised based on each job description, made a significant difference.”

He claimed his approach was “incredibly effective” in attracting the attention of recruiters. Reflecting on his method, he said: “Observing this technological revolution, I can’t help but reflect on the profound implications for the world of work.

“While efficient, the automation of job applications raises questions about the very nature of professional relationships. We face a paradox: as we seek to optimise the selection process, we risk losing the human element that often makes a difference in a work environment.

“The challenge ahead is not just technological, but also ethical and social. We’ll need to find a delicate balance between the efficiency of artificial intelligence and the richness of human interactions. Only then can we build a future of work that is not just productive, but also fulfilling and meaningful for everyone.”

Opinions are sharply divided on the new trend of AI-driven job applications, with reactions ranging from admiration to outright rejection. One user remarked: “Unethical? I don’t know. Companies use AI to read applications/ resumes so it’s pretty much bot talking to bot. If it gets me the job in the 21st century then like the old 20th century saying goes, all’s fair in love and war.”

Another intrigued individual pondered: “I’m about to try this. Do we get to see a log of which jobs the bot has applied to? I would like to not be surprised by certain jobs calling back. Also, do you or anyone else recommend creating an email inbox specifically for this? I would imagine that my email will get bombarded with ‘Thank you for applying emails’.”

Meanwhile, one cautious voice warned: “Careful. Companies are starting to add a ‘no AI’ rule for resumes/applications. We already do and I even suspect AI was used, your resume goes straight in the trash.”

A forthright critic declared: “He’s a fraud.” Lastly, a dissatisfied user complained: “This is broken, it doesn’t work.”
