Manchester Airport LIVE as runways shut after ‘significant’ snowfall

Manchester Airport has closed its runways this morning due to the weather. The airport says that ‘significant levels of snow’ has led to the decision and staff are working to clear it ‘as quickly as possible.’

The announcement comes after snowfall has caused travel chaos across Greater Manchester this morning. Temperatures plummeted again in the region as the cold snap continues this week.

A yellow Met Office weather warning for snow and ice is in force across parts of the North West until 11am today – with snow falling across parts of Greater Manchester this morning. This morning, there are severe delays due to the snowfall on the M60 and M56, with several major roads, including the A560, A56 and A572, ‘impassable’ due to snow.

The A555 Manchester Airport relief road also remains shut following the recent flooding and icy weather. While several schools have remained closed.

A statement by the airport reads: “Our runways are closed due to significant levels of snow, as our teams work hard to clear them as quickly as possible.

“The safety of our passengers is our top priority, and we appreciate your patience during this time. Please check with your airline for the latest flight information and allow extra travel time today. We will update you as soon as possible. Thank you.”
