Manchester Airport runways CLOSED as heavy snow leaves flights cancelled

Manchester Airport has been forced to shut its runways after a surprise blanket of heavy snow hit Greater Manchester.

The unexpected snowfall has caused widespread disruption, with many roads becoming hazardous and several schools closing their doors. Although a Met Office weather warning for snow and ice was in place for Wigan, the rest of the Greater Manchester region was not issued a warning.

Manchester Airport’s runways are currently closed due to the significant snowfall, with airport staff working to clear them as quickly as possible.

This is the latest in a series of disruptions at the airport this week, caused by the ongoing cold snap. A Manchester Airport spokesperson said: “Our runways are temporarily closed due to significant levels of snow, as our teams work hard to clear them as quickly as possible. The safety of our passengers is our top priority, and we appreciate your patience during this time.”
