A devastating find was made when a man’s body was retrieved from a lake at a beloved Nottingham beauty spot, prompting an immediate evacuation. Police were summoned to Wollaton Park following reports by passers-by earlier today (Friday, January 3).
Arriving at 12:59pm, officers have since confirmed the deceased’s next of kin have been notified while they continue to piece together the circumstances. Detective Inspector Lisa Jones of Nottinghamshire Police remarked on the sombre situation: “This is a tragic discovery and our thoughts this afternoon are with this man’s family and friends.”
She added: “Whilst our investigation into what happened remains at an early stage, we don’t currently believe his death to be suspicious.”

DI Jones also issued a call to action, urging anyone who might have seen something to come forward: “As we work to understand how this man came to be in the water, I would like to appeal to any additional witnesses to come forward.”
The incident caused visitors to the historic estate and deer park to be ushered away as police dealt with the unfolding situation, hinting the area could remain inaccessible for a number of hours before departing around 2:30pm, reports Nottinghamshire Live.
Authorities are keen to hear from anyone with further insights on this incident and are asking that they dial 101, citing incident 265 of 3 January 2025.
