Labbett first appeared on our screens on the ITV quiz show back in 2009 and has been open about his weight loss journey, which reached its peak during the 2020 lockdown. In 2003, when he was a full-time teacher, Mark weighed in at his heaviest at 29 stone, reports the Express.
After being diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes in 2016, he had to make drastic changes to his lifestyle to prevent further health issues. Thanks to a healthier diet and improved exercise regime, he’s since shed an impressive 10 stone.

He’s now the “smallest” he’s been in 30 years after losing around 64kg, while still standing tall at 6ft 6in. Mark “The Beast” Labbett embarked on his remarkable weight loss journey back in the first Covid lockdown of 2020.
After already shedding around three stone before the pandemic hit, the shutdown of nurseries and his efforts to keep up with his lively young son further accelerated his weight loss. Talking to the panel on Loose Women, he said: “I found at the end of the evening instead of going to the fridge for late-night snacking, all I could do was collapse on the bed.”
His Labrador Retriever, Baloo, too, has been cited as a catalyst in Labbett’s transformation journey, as he shared on ITV’s The Pet Show alongside Dermot O’Leary and Joanna Page, saying: “I was walking him around the fields, taking me places… I think he’s helped a lot, simply because I’m doing more activity.”

Key to his success was also a diet that severely limited two key foods – sugar and carbs, constituting what he considers a “complete nutrition overhaul”.
After receiving medical advice on the potential hazards of gastric band surgery, especially given how his body handles sugar, Labbett decided against any surgical interventions.
