Martin Lewis has issued a warning to British Airways passengers over a “hugely disappointing” shake up. The BBC and ITV star spoke out on Twitter, now X, over a loyalty scheme shake up from BA which means some will need to spend a lot more to earn any perks.
Martin warned: “British Airways customers ‘hugely disappointed’ as loyalty scheme revamp means only those spending £1,000s a year will earn status perks. Full story…” MSE explained British Airways has announced sweeping and controversial changes to its ‘Executive Club’ loyalty scheme for frequent flyers.
The shake-up means you’ll likely need to spend a lot more with BA from 1 April 2025 if you want to earn any perks. You’ll now earn tier points based on the amount you spend with BA and be able to earn tier points on your entire BA Holidays spend – not just the flights.

But the number of tier points you need for each status level is MUCH higher. One passenger fumed: “Why are @British_Airways punishing loyal customers. I’ve been a silver card member since 2021 and I often fly club Europe & club world for both work and pleasure. But going forward I’ll be looking for wherever has the best deal. This is not the BA I love. It’s being destroyed.”
A second said: “Hugely disappointed with the changes @British_Airways have made to the Exec club today. As a loyal flyer and long time Gold Card holder it’s safe to say I’ll be voting with my feet and taking my loyalty to somewhere it will be more appreciated.. Big mistake BA, BIG, HUGE”
“Thanks @British_Airways it will now be impossible for me to retain my Gold membership status and it’s highly unlikely I will even retain Silver. There’s now no need for me to keep loyal to the brand, EasyJet will now benefit from my 8+ holidays pa,” a third typed.
