Martin Lewis issues warning to anyone booking a holiday in January

Martin Lewis has issued a warning to anyone who’s booking a holiday during January. The BBC Sounds and ITV star has spoken out over January being the key booking month for people looking to fly abroad this year – but has also issued a travel insurance reminder.

Mr Lewis said: “”Do you have questions about travel insurance? This is the key holiday booking month, and you should always get insurance ASAB, so I aim to cover it in my podcast this week. If you’ve got questions just reply to this and the producers will pick some to put in the show…”

ASAB stands for as soon as you book. Responding to Mr Lewis, one Twitter/X user said: “I’m travelling abroad (Europe) for the first time since 2018. I’m over 65 and have a couple of well managed long term conditions. Having heard some of my friends experiences in getting travel insurance who are in a similar situation I’m dreading how much it’s going to cost.”

“Our son is travelling to Tenerife in March for a uni field trip. He’s only really been away with us or his girlfriend before in the past. What’s the best way for him to use money out there please? Take local currency and/or a card of some sort? Thank you,” a second agreed.

A third wrote: “I have just had my travel insurance cancelled as I told them I had been put on a waiting list for an Ablation. This is a procedure to help or even cure my Atrial Fibrillation. It will make me healthier and give me longer life expectancy.”

“Very topical question for me. Cancellation of hols due to illness/ death of close relative. Annual bank travel insurance. You are never asked to disclose anything about your relatives health. How am I supposed to know how ill a parents condition is and whether they will worsen?” another asked.
