Martin Lewis’ MSE issues warning to anyone who’s a BT, Sky, Virgin Media customer

Martin Lewis has issued a warning to BT, Sky, Virgin Media customers over a big bill change this spring. The BBC and ITV star’s team at Money Saving Expert have compiled a guide over how much bills will be hiked as we move deeper into the calendar year.

MSE has published a guide titled: “Broadband, mobile and TV price hikes 2025: How BT, Sky, Virgin Media and more will change bills this spring.” Sky Mobile users who are out of contract will see their bills rise by £1.50 a month from February 14, 2025. Your bill won’t go up if you’re still in contract. Sky has not revealed how much its broadband, TV and home phone packages will rise by yet.

With Virgin Media, if you joined or upgraded on or after January 9, 2025, your broadband, landline or TV package will rise by £3.50 a month from April. This won’t apply to customers on Essential Broadband or Essential Broadband Plus packages, or Talk Protected phone-only plans.

MSE said: ” If you’re out of contract, you’re free to leave – so check you’re not overpaying. Broadband and mobile firms have millions of customers who are out of contract and have simply been rolled on to often pricier tariffs without signing up for them. If that’s you, you’re free to leave without having to pay any fees or penalties – so it’s worth checking if you can save £100s by switching. Remember, newbies tend to get the best deals.”

With BT, if you joined or renewed your contract on or after April 10, 2024, the price of your mobile bill will rise by £1.50 a month from March 31. TV customers will pay £2 a month more, and broadband customers will pay an extra £3 a month. Out-of-bundle services will be subject to an annual 5% increase.

For those who joined or renewed on or before April 9, 2024, your price will rise by 6.4%. There will be no increases for customers who are financially vulnerable, landline-only customers, pay-as-you-go households, or those on a BT Home Essentials, EE Mobile Basics, or BT Home Phone Saver package.
