Martin Lewis has issued an “urgent” warning to UK households who have an energy bill. The BBC Sounds podcast host has promoted his latest episode via Twitter, now X, where he has warned 80 per cent of people are currently overpaying.
52-year-old Mr Lewis said: “New Pod, worth a listen I hope. Urgently reduce energy bills rip off (80 per cent overpay). Are joint accounts worth it? What’s the best? Flight delay compensation Plus EV tariffs, Octopus tracker, standing charges and more.”
In reply, a social media told the Money Saving Expert founder: “Swapped a week ago after listening to your excellent advice. DD already down nearly £20 a month based on the past year’s use. Also took your MSE Lebara deal, knocking £8 a month off my mobile sim for eight months.

“Nearly £200 off for the year in two small steps.” A second wrote: “Told them I wasn’t paying any extra because I’m in credit and they haven’t put my price up.” A third said: “Hi Martin, I’d really appreciate some feedback. We’re avid listeners of yours. We saw the show that suggested fixing, which the E-on Next deal is tempting. However we’re currently on Octopus Tracker and really stuck on what to do. Could you advise please?”
“I fixed middle of September. Should I look at fixing again now or end of the 12 months. I’m with BG,” another wrote. “Eon have over charged me on my smart meter £25 to £40 a day for about 4 months I told them the Meter was faulty they did nothing and now say I owe the £6700 ! I spoke to ofgem theyjust told me to contact Eon ! I really don’t know what to do,” said another.
“I’m always on my energy bills with fixes. I look at it like this no one burns money so why not get energy bills as low as possible,” another typed. “Again, as I mentioned yesterday, why are we being ripped off? Shouldn’t OFGEM be preventing consumers from being ripped off? Powerless and toothless as per…” fumed another.
