Martin Lewis warns anyone who’s paying £8 or more for mobile phone bill

Martin Lewis has issued a warning to anyone who’s paying £8 or more for their mobile phone bill. The BBC Sounds podcast host spoke out as he returned to ITV with his ‘bill buster’ special episode, which aired from 8pm on Tuesday, January 14.

Mr Lewis said: “If you pay over £8/mth for your mobile and aren’t still paying off your handset this is definitely worth a watch.” He added: “Existing customer mobile costs have soared, new customer Sim costs have plummeted. Three steps to take advantage and save.

“Watch my full BillBuster show at ITV.” Replying to the 52-year-old, one X user (formerly Twitter) said: “What ever happened to loyal customer benefits I’m one of a very small amount or the last one standing that have been with @EE since there conception & before them, I’ve had one free month & a couple of benefits in 14 years 9 months??? & yes new customers get more!”

“f you’re an O2 sim-only customer, do not upgrade with the offers they serve upto you. Go to any sim-only price compare website, search O2 deals, they’re all half the price, just click it and immediately it’ll take you back to O2 and go from there,” said a second.

“I dont want a 12 month contract though thats the biggest issue – Vodafone was the last one I had & they were terrible, I would advise anyone to never use them – delayed PAC code until I went into store & waited on them doing it, signal was SHOCKING! & the free 12m sub was delayed,” a third wrote.

Another chimed in to say: “For the last 6 years or so my wife and I each pay £5 per month for SIM only contract. The contract price hasn’t risen at all in that time but our usage has, originally was only 1GB of data and 250 mins and texts but is now 5 GB data and free mins and texts.”

Another said: “PAYG beats the typically up to two year tie-ins of contracts hands down, even with the same vendor, like eg. Tesco Mobile The freedom to shift suppliers monthly or even just suspend temporarily makes all the difference. Nobody should be spending more than £10/month on a mobile.”
