Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have urged people to help those who have ‘been left with nothing’ as a result of the wildfires raging through Los Angeles. The Duke and Duchess risk having the power to their mansion cut off due to the devastating infernos.
The Sussexes, who live in Montecito, California, with their two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, were said to be a ‘high risk’ as they were just 60 miles from the fires spreading across Malibu. However in a statement released on their website, they encouraged those who were able to offer those affected a ‘safe haven’ to do so.
They said: “In the last few days, wildfires in Southern California have raged through neighbourhoods and devastated families, homes, schools, medical care centres, and so much more – affecting tens of thousands from all walks of life. A state of emergency has been issued. If you feel compelled to help, here are some resources and ideas.”

The statement continued: “If a friend, loved one, or pet has to evacuate and you are able to offer them a safe haven in your home, please do. And be sure to check in with any disabled or elderly neighbours to see if they need help evacuating.
“Some families and people have been left with nothing. Please consider donating clothing, children’s toys and clothing, and other essentials. The American Red Cross is on the ground helping those in need.”
According to the Mirror, electricity companies around Montecito, where the Sussexes live, suggested that power outages were possible. This raised the prospect of the couple having to move to safety with their two young children.
The devastating wildfires have claimed the lives of five people and destroyed more than 1,000 homes. It’s believed more than 70,000 people have been evacuated so far.
