The Met Office has issued a new weather warning for Merseyside. The region has been hit with weather warnings for six days in a row and a fresh yellow weather alert has just been issued.
Forecasters said the weather warning for ice will be in place between 4pm today until 10am on Friday, January 10 and covers the whole of Merseyside. The Met Office said scattered wintry showers may lead to some icy patches and travel disruption.
A spokesperson for the weather service said: “Scattered wintry showers on Thursday evening will slowly fade overnight, leading to the risk of icy patches on untreated surfaces as temperatures fall below freezing. Isolated snow accumulations of 2-4 cm will be possible, more especially in Wales on hills above 150m elevation.”
The adverse weather conditions this past week has caused traffic chaos, school closures and rail cancellations. This morning Merseyrail suspended all services due the “heavy” snow and ice.
It added that customers should try to find alternative transport arrangements and that it was dealing with several trapped trains and “very poor rail conditions”.
