Icy surfaces will lead to some difficult travel conditions
Icy conditions are expected in the next couple of hours
The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for ice, with Merseyside identified as a key area of concern. This warning is effective from 4pm today until 10am tomorrow.
A band of rain, sleet, and hill snow is expected to move southward during Wednesday afternoon and evening. As the skies clear afterward, and with standing water from previous rain, ice is likely to form quickly on untreated surfaces, resulting in difficult travel conditions.
Wintry showers are also anticipated along some north-facing coasts overnight, which may increase the likelihood of icy conditions in those areas. The Met Office has advised people to be cautious of icy patches on untreated roads, pavements, and cycle paths, as there is a risk of injuries from slips and falls on these surfaces.
Following this weather warning, a particularly cold couple of days is expected, with the potential for widespread snow and disruptions extending into the weekend. Daytime temperatures are predicted to be between 3°C and 5°C below average, with the coldest areas potentially dropping to minus 10°C at night.
