Met Office London weather with UKHSA yellow health alert

The alert will be in place from 6pm on Friday, January 17, until 9am on Tuesday, January 21, with health services expected to feel extra impact during this period.

The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) has cautioned that vulnerable groups, including older people and those with pre-existing health conditions, are particularly at risk.

The cold weather is likely to lead to increased use of healthcare services, and in some cases, could pose a risk to life.

The forecast for the period is as follows:

  • Friday, January 17: Overcast changing to sunny intervals by lunchtime. Temperatures between 7°C and 3°C.
  • Saturday, January 18: Overcast throughout the day. Temperatures between 5°C and 2°C.
  • Sunday, January 19: Overcast conditions persist. Temperatures between 6°C and 4°C.
  • Monday, January 20: Overcast but slightly warmer. Temperatures between 8°C and 2°C.
  • Tuesday, January 21: Sunny intervals expected. Temperatures between 6°C and 2°C.

Residents are urged to take precautions to stay warm and safe during this period.

This includes keeping homes heated to at least 18°C, wearing warm clothing, and checking on neighbours or family members who might need support.

The UKHSA advises those in vulnerable groups to seek medical help if necessary and to remain aware of the risks associated with the cold weather.
