The Met Office has shared the full list of areas set for a -15C freeze tonight – in the coldest night for years. Areas currently affected by yellow alerts for snow and/or ice include the Scottish Highlands, Scotland’s west coast and Northern Ireland.
Greater Manchester, as well as parts of Yorkshire and Derbyshire and England’s south coast are also in the midst of a yellow alert. he mercury could dive as low as -15 to -16C in parts, according to Met Desk data used by WX Charts, published today.
William Hill spokesperson, Lee Phelps, said: “Following news of an incoming polar blast arriving in the UK this week, we’ve been forced to slash our price for the nation to experience its coldest ever January night this month.

“It’ll take some effort to beat 1982’s record of -27c, but with temperatures reported to go as low as -20c in some areas of the UK this Thursday, we’re a cautious 5/1 for the record to be surpassed.” The Met Office has issued its forecast for the evening.
It says: “Sleet and snow clearing the south this evening, then becoming dry overnight. Freezing fog patches forming, with icy stretches. A few wintry showers continuing in the northwest. A severe frost. Thursday will be another cold day, with plenty of sunny spells. A few fog patches lingering once more and further wintry showers possible in the northwest.”
The current outlook for Friday to Sunday adds: ” Dry for many Friday, with some sunshine. Cloudier in the far west, with patchy rain and snow. Cloudy over the weekend, with some rain and hill snow, though eventually milder.”
Its forecast for Wednesday explains: “Staying cold, dry and sunny for many through the day, though wintry showers will continue across Scotland and Northern Ireland. A few lingering fog patches too. Outbreaks of rain, sleet and snow pushing eastwards across southern counties of England.”
