Yorkshire has been hit with two separate yellow weather warnings at the start of 2025 for snow and wind.
The Met Office has issued a snow warning, covering much of the north, on New Years Day (Wednesday) from 9am until 3am the following day.
A wind warning has been issued across the bulk of England from 6am on the same day until 6am on the Thursday (December 2). Regarding the snow warning, the government agency has said: “Heavy and persistent snow may bring disruption on Wednesday and Wednesday night.
“There is a small chance that power cuts will occur and other services, such as mobile phone coverage, may be affected. There is a slight chance that some rural communities could become cut off. There is a small chance of travel delays on roads with some stranded vehicles and passengers, along with delayed or cancelled rail and air travel.”
Regarding the wind warning, the Met Office said: “Very strong winds expected to lead to some disruption. There is a small chance of longer journey times or cancellations as road, rail, air and ferry services are affected. There is a slight chance of some damage to buildings, such as tiles blown from roofs.
“There is a slight chance that power cuts may occur, with the potential to affect other services, such as mobile phone coverage. There is a small chance that injuries and danger to life could occur from large waves and beach material being thrown onto sea fronts, coastal roads and properties.
“There is a small chance of injuries and danger to life from flying debris. There is a small chance that some roads and bridges could close.”
