Met Office weather warning as strong winds pose a ‘danger to life’

The Met Office has issued a 21-hour yellow weather warning for wind across Devon and Cornwall from 9am on New Year’s Day until 6am on January 2. The warning forecasts “very strong winds” throughout England, which may lead to disruption and pose a risk to life.

Gusts of up to 75mph are predicted as a low-pressure system moves across the UK from the west. The Exeter-based Met Office has warned people that travel may be impacted, resulting in longer journey times due to potential disruption on road, rail, and ferry services.

Strong winds may also cause damage to buildings and properties, as roof tiles are blown off, and potentially leading to power outages in some areas. Coastal areas should expect large waves and beach debris being thrown onto seafronts, roads, and properties.

The Met Office also warns of the possibility of injuries and danger to life while the warning is in place. Heavy rain is also forecast and likely to cause some disruption.
