A yellow weather warning for snow in Yorkshire over the weekend has been upgraded to ‘Amber’. The warning – cranked up just under 34 hours before the warning comes into play from 9pm on Saturday (January 4) evening – is set to last until midnight on Sunday, January 5.
The 18-hour snow warning encompasses the entire Yorkshire region with an amber alert for snow but also ice – for the southern tips of South Yorkshire and Lincolnshire.
The snow prediction has sparked a further warning from the Met Office suggesting some rural communities, town and villages could get cut off due to roads and rail networks becoming inaccessible.
Power cuts are also likely as temperatures drop and telephone and power cables feel the weight of the snow coming down, as well as the atmospheric pressure causing poor mobile phone coverage, according to the weather experts.
It is not yet known if the incoming snow will settle but weather experts are predicting a barrage of the white stuff this weekend – and more could be on the way. Read the latest snow weather maps here.
The yellow snow and ice warning for Yorkshire comes into play from 12noon on Saturday. The Met Office has shortened the warning to midnight on Sunday, January 5 – not the original end of 9am on Monday morning.
