Michelle Keegan’s brutal words about the relationship between Mark Wright and Lauren Goodger have come to light once again, following the announcement of Mark and Michelle’s baby on the way last week. The former stars of The Only Way Is Essex, Mark Wright and Lauren Goodger, had a turbulent 12-year off-and-on romance, which came to an end in 2012.
After their breakup, Lauren was devastated, especially as Mark quickly moved on with Coronation Street’s Michelle Keegan. Just three years after Mark and Michelle started dating, they tied the knot, while Lauren continued to call her ex-TOWIE beau ‘the love of her life’.
The hostility between Michelle and Lauren only grew after she married Mark nine years ago, with Lauren frequently discussing her past relationship with Mark and admitting that their split “broke” her, making her feel like she’d “never going to love anyone else”. But it’s not just Lauren who has thrown shade — Michelle also took a swipe at the couple while they were still engaged in 2011.

Mark and Lauren dated on and off for years before Mark met Michelle
Penning thoughts in her Love It! magazine column, Michelle remarked: “I love TOWIE! It’s one of those shows you don’t want to watch, but just can’t help turning on. I don’t know how Lauren can take Mark back so easily, though – it’s so cringe! I wouldn’t be able to get back with someone who’d slept with lots of girls I knew, but that’s just me.”
While the comments were made before Michelle Keegan and Mark Wright got together in 2012, they have resurfaced. More drama ensued in 2014 when Lauren Goodger responded to an ‘Ask Me Anything’ on social media, claiming she made the ‘Wright choice over Mark’.
This prompted Mark to tweet his ex angrily: “It’s been well over 2 years and it still continues. I find it so disrespectful to myself but more importantly, my fiancé. Be a proper woman. Please leave me out of your public conversations, stop embarrassing yourself. Start having some respect and MOVE ON.”

Mark and Michelle have been happily married for almost a decade and while they’ve largely been focusing on their career’s and building their mega mansion in Essex they’ve decided to take their relationship to the next level in 2025 as they prepare to welcome their first child.
The couple’s happy news follows years of intrusive speculation from fans and family members about if and when the two stars would start a family together. Taking to Instagram to announce the news on Sunday, December 29 Michelle shared a photo of her cradling her baby bump on the beach with Mark looking on with the caption: “2025 is going to be a special one for us… [baby emoji. love heart emoji]”.

Mark’s brother Josh was quick to express his joy over the couple’s announcement of Michelle’s pregnancy on Sunday, commenting: “Over the moon for you both and can’t wait for our boys to meet your little one.” Mark’s mother also shared her excitement, posting the same announcement photo on her Instagram and stating she was “super excited” about the new addition to the family.
The actress has never been shy about her desire to have children. In a 2018 interview with Women’s Health, she said: “I’ve always been broody. I love kids, and I want four, so hopefully in the near future.”
Meanwhile, speaking to Heart in 2019, Mark revealed he wanted to be well-travelled before starting a family, although they were already “excited” at the prospect. At that time, he felt he wasn’t “quite there yet,” wanting to ensure he had seen enough of the world before having a child.
