Midlands country pub closes just weeks after ‘To Let’ sign goes up

A Midlands country pub has shut – just weeks after a ‘To Let’ sign went up. The Crown Inn, in Yoxall, opened for the final time last weekend following the landlord’s decision to close.

The ‘sad decision’ has been blamed on health issues, increasing costs and falling footfall. In a social media post issued to customers, the Main Street venue said: “After two years of hard work, money and trying everything we can to building the Crown back up we have decided we can’t continue.”

The post continued: “The combination of health issues, escalating costs, and decreased footfall, combined with a poor economic outlook are a perfect storm for us and much of the industry.”

The pub, which has been open since circa 1850, said it was a “sad decision” that had been taken and the owners said they’d made some good friends during their time running it, reports StokeonTrentLive.. The statement read: “It is a sad decision for me and Heather to have to make, having made some good friends along the way.

“We thank you for the support and kind words over the last few weeks. We have up to six months before we can let the lease go unless a tenant can be found but we have made the very sad decision to close the doors.

“Thank you to all our very valued customers during our time here. We know any new tenant will have a beautiful pub and a willing community to work with and hope they continue the long story of the Crown.”
