Police are still searching for missing twin sisters Eliza and Henrietta Huszti, 32, in Aberdeen
The sisters, who are two-thirds of a set of triplets and originally from Hungary, were last seen in CCTV footage on January 7 walking across Victoria Bridge. The footage appears to show the two turning off onto a footpath running alongside the River Dee, leading police to suspect they may have gone into the water. But an urgent search mounted by Police Scotland using police helicopters, dogs and marine units has so far been unable to find a trace of the sisters. And, as investigators consider new theories, a host of questions are yet to be answered…

Where were the Huszti sisters heading?
CCTV footage taken on January 7 suggested they were heading in the direction of the Aberdeen Boat Club after turning onto the River Dee during their early morning walk. David Howieson, the Superintendent for Police Scotland in Aberdeen, said the force has “no trace” of the two leaving a footpath adjacent to the river. The police search, which has been extended down “the river, the river bank, and the harbour itself”, is yet to uncover any sign of their presence.
Superintendent Howieson added: “We’re not ruling out the fact that they may have left this area by means that we haven’t identified yet.”

Why were the Huszti sisters walking late at night?
Eliza and Henrietta were out walking during a freezing spell in Aberdeen at around 2.12am on January 7. David Howieson, the Superintendent for Police Scotland in the city, said their movements on the morning were “very out of character”.
He told a police conference on Tuesday: “What we know is that the behaviour of the sisters in the morning on which they disappeared is very out of character.” The Superintendent said investigators are yet to understand why they went out in the dead of night, adding: “We’re trying to remain open-minded in terms of what the wider circumstances may have been.”

Why did the Huszti sisters leave a mysterious message?
The landlady who initially raised the alarm told police Eliza and Henrietta had indicated they “had left the flat” and “intended to move”. Superintendent Howieson said inquiries uncovered “circumstances” that led to additional concerns about the welfare of the sisters. All of their possessions were found in the home.
He said: “There was an indication from the person from whom they rent a flat who had concerns that they left the flat and indicated they intended to move. So inquiries were carried out at the flat, and the circumstances that were found led to concern around their whereabouts, which was then important to the police.”

Why didn’t Huszti sisters tell family about major life update?
The sister’s brother, Jozsef, said the family were not aware of their decision to move out of their flat, despite he and his mother having spoken to them in the days and weeks prior to the disappearance. He added everything had seemed normal when they talked, and the two didn’t mention their decision to move out.
He told the BBC: “They wrote a message to their landlady that they wanted to immediately end their tenancy agreement. We didn’t have any information about that. So that’s the strange thing, that the girls didn’t tell us anything about that. They never mentioned any such plan.”

Why did Huszti sisters only take one mobile phone?
Jozsef said another detail of which his family were not aware was that Eliza and Henrietta only took one mobile phone the night they vanished. The family was not informed of the unusual move until it was announced by officers investigating the sisters’ movements.
What was the ‘scream’ residents heard?
There have been claims that Aberdeen residents heard screams around the time the pair are thought to have gone missing, although detectives don’t think anyone is involved in their disappearance and are not treating it as suspicious.
One resident told The Sun: “Everyone is talking about this. It was pretty scary stuff. A woman screaming out in the darkness is going to raise some red flags. But it’s not entirely clear what the noises were. No one has been able to establish whether or not they are definitely connected to the girls.”
Anyone with information regarding the disappearance is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 0735 of January 7.
