Moment West Yorkshire Police officer mistakes woman for child

The hilarious moment a West Yorkshire Police officer mistook a 20-year-old Castleford woman for a child has been caught on camera – and people love it.

Keira Stone opened the door to the police officer who was knocking on various doors on her street. However, once she opened it, instead of being asked any questions, the officer asked to speak to her mum. He can be heard asking “Is your mum there” before he quickly corrects himself.

Keira replied to the officer, saying the house belonged to her, although she says she was “flattered” by the mistake. This exchange was all caught on her Ring doorbell camera on December 20, 2024, which she shared fearing no one would believe her otherwise.

Working as a chef in Castleford, Keira said: “The officer was just doing door-to-door rounds, to make sure everyone was okay. I saw him knocking at my door and I was like: ‘Oh cr*p – what have I done.’

“When I answered, he asked if my mum was there. It was very flattering, but I could tell he was embarrassed as well.”

It is the second time this has happened to Keira after a previous mistake by a delivery driver. “It’s not even the first time this has happened,” she added. “I’d ordered a delivery – I had to have someone over the age of 18 to answer the door and sign for the package.

“When I opened the door, he also asked if I could get my mum – even though it was my package.”

Keira says during her teenage years, people tended to think she was older, but the mistakes became reversed after she turned 18. These days, she even gets asked for ID for Red Bull drinks, which can’t be sold to people under the age of 16.

Getting in to clubs and bars can be awkward, and she says she often feels she needs to wear more makeup, but this does not work. “I used to look and act older than my age,” Keira added.

“My mum was a single parent when I was growing up, so I used to do a lot of the cleaning and shopping. I think my older attitude made people mistake me for being older.

“As I’ve turned 18, though, people always think I’m younger. It’s definitely flattering – but a pain that I need to bring my ID everywhere.”
