Montenegro bar shooting horror as gunman opens fire and kills at least four after brawl

In a tragic event, a gunman has killed at least four individuals and wounded another four in the western Montenegrin city of Cetinje.

The assailant is still at large, with special forces deployed to track him down in Cetinje, located approximately 18 miles northwest of the capital Podgorica.

The suspect has been identified only by his initials, A. M., and is said to be 45 years old. Reports indicate he began shooting in a bar before fleeing the scene armed.

Police have confirmed a minimum of four deaths, but state RTCG television and other local media suggest up to seven fatalities following a confrontation in a bar, reports the Mirror.

Prime Minister of Montenegro Milojko Spajic visited the hospital where the injured are receiving care and declared a three-day period of mourning. While not confirming the exact number of victims, he conveyed his profound distress about the situation, remarking: “This is a terrible tragedy that has affected us all,” and mentioned, “All police teams are out.”

Aco Martinovic is the name revealed by RTCG as the attacker. Known for unpredictable behaviour, Martinovic had previously been apprehended for unlawfully possessing arms.

RTCG has released an image on its website allegedly showing the suspect. According to their coverage, Martinovic went back to his residence to grab his gun before heading back to the bar, where he shot and killed or injured several individuals.

The individual then relocated to another site where he took the lives of the bar owner’s children and a woman. Authorities have called for residents to remain calm and stay indoors, dismissing any speculation of a gang-related conflict.

Montenegro, a small nation with a population of approximately 620,000, is recognised for its gun culture, with many inhabitants traditionally possessing firearms. This incident represents the second shooting spree in Cetinje, Montenegro’s historic capital, within the last three years.

In August 2022, an assailant murdered 10 individuals, including two children, before being shot and killed by a bystander in Cetinje.
