M&S told to ‘calm down’ over Valentine’s Day gifts that ‘look like they belong in Ann Summers’

With Christmas done and dusted stores are already moving on to the next big date in the calendar, Valentine’s Day. And there’s one range that’s causing quite a stir.

M&S has launched some new chocolate gifts for 2025 and it’s clear that some shoppers are finding them a little too raunchy for the straight laced retailer.

With the likes of a chocolate banana and a chocolate arrow with a bulging red heart on the end, photos of the gifts have sparked quite a reaction on social media.

“Is it only me or do these look like they should be sold in Ann Summers?” said one shopper, responding to an image of both gifts.

“Bit X rated for M&S,” said another, while a third added: “When M&S goes rogue” and a fourth said: “I think M&S needs to calm down.”

The You’re Appealing solid milk chocolate with butterscotch banana bar costs £3.75. Describing the 60g gift, the retailer says: “Let someone know you’re bananas for them with our playful banana-shaped chocolate bar, crafted from creamy milk chocolate with butterscotch pieces in a heart-scattered box.”

For the 70g Love Struck solid milk chocolate bar, it says: “Shoot Cupid’s arrow towards one you love with our Love Struck creamy milk chocolate bar, shaped like a winged arrow with a red heart decoration and presented in a charming box.”

It comes as the retailer is selling off its Christmas gifts at bargain prices.

We reported yesterday how one of its most popular 2024 gift tins, the Santa’s Workshop Musical Light Up Tin, has been reduced from £10 to just £1.

The Magical Snowing Forest – the world’s first snowing chocolate box with milk and blond truffles – has also been reduced to £1, along with the All Butter Shortbread Projection Tree. And the tin cars with fruity jelly sweets inside and the sleighs with a bag of chocolate presents are down to 50p.
