A woman was left devastated after her sister made an outrageous request after getting pregnant by her cheating husband.
Discovering you’ve been cheated on is always a crushing blow, but it’s even more devastating when a pregnancy results from the betrayal, especially if the other party is a family member or close friend. This was the harsh reality for one woman who recently discovered her husband and sister were having an affair when her sister announced she was pregnant.
The woman promptly initiated divorce proceedings after learning about the betrayal, severing ties with both her partner and sister. However, things have gone from bad to worse now that her sister has given birth to her child, as she’s come to her sibling with an outrageous demand.
In a Reddit post, the 26-year-old woman shared that she and her 24-year-old sister had been “really close” all their lives, moving out together when they left their parents’ home. After she got married, her sister continued to spend a lot of time with her, but a few years later, she discovered her younger sibling had been sleeping with her husband.
Upon discovering the affair, she separated from her partner and moved out, leaving her husband and sister to live together. But following the birth of her sister’s baby, her husband has evicted her sister from their home, leaving her and the baby homeless. Now, her sister wants to move back in with her – despite her causing the destruction of her marriage.
She explained: “She called our parents from the hospital and told them she had nowhere to go. That [my husband] was looking for custody and didn’t want her back, and I wasn’t answering her calls. So they called me, and after I heard them explain what was going on, I told them it wasn’t my problem.
“They tried to argue, but I wasn’t having any of it. She got a place at a shelter for single parents and she’s still there several weeks on.
“With the custody dispute, she can’t move back to our parents, and I am still refusing to help her out. My parents are angry because I won’t even take her calls or reply to any messages she’s sent.
“They’re telling me I should be ashamed of myself for turning my back on her and the baby. I told my parents I owed her and the baby nothing. My parents called me disgusting for leaving them homeless.”
Online users who weighed in mostly sided with the woman’s decision, highlighting that responsibility for her sister and niece shouldn’t fall solely on her shoulders, suggesting instead that her parents step in during this tumultuous period.
One individual commented: “Good job standing your ground and having boundaries. Your sister will figure her s**t out eventually, but that’s not your concern. Your parents are on thin ice for trying to force you to help that backstabber.” Another added: “First betrayal, then entitlement. Why don’t your parents take her in?
