A daughter wants to grant her mum’s final wish after she was diagnosed with terminal cancer. Allison Davies, 46, found a lump in her breast 20 years ago following the birth of her youngest son, however was told it was “just a milk lump.”
For the next 14 years Allison, from St Helens, asked for scans to be done as she “knew something was wrong.” Finally, in 2019 she was diagnosed with breast cancer and underwent treatment, which sent the cancer into remission. But in March last year she was told it had returned and it was now terminal.
Her daughter, Gemma Davies, 25, told the ECHO: “When she had my younger brother [now aged 19] she found a lump in her breast, she could feel it but doctors kept saying it was a milk lump. This went on for 14 years until they discovered it was breast cancer after she pushed for tests.
“She kept saying she knew something wasn’t right because of the lump. She was treated and had a mastectomy and was told it had gone, that was six years ago.
“But the pain never went away and she kept going back to the doctors telling them something wasn’t right, she was scared it was going to come back so was asking for tests. They kept telling her it was just indigestion and prescribed her tablets but she knew it was more than that. Eventually she got tests done and was told she had stage four terminal cancer.”
Allison has been undergoing chemotherapy, but was told after her last round of treatment nothing more can be done as the cancer has spread. Gemma told the ECHO the family are “trying to keep strong” after the news.

She said: “We’re trying to support each other, it’s hit us all hard. She has three kids, we’re a big family, she has two grandchildren, a husband and brothers and sisters who she is like a mum too.
“We usually see each other every day, we’re so close. We’re just trying to keep strong and positive but it has affected us all. She is doing so well with it. She keeps turning a blind eye because when she has a minute she thinks about it and it gets to her, she tries to keep strong for everyone.
“Mum is the centre of the family. She is like the mum to them all [her brothers and sisters]. She is loving, kind, she would do anything for anyone, never puts herself first, always puts everyone else first.”
Gemma has set up a GoFundMe page to raise money so that her mum can have her one final wish of going on a family holiday to make precious memories. She added: “She wants to go abroad as a family, family means everything to her so she wants to make these memories.
“I’ve not long had a little girl and she wants to go away with us all to make memories with her grandkids in the places she used to go when she was younger. She was thinking about going to Tenerife or Benidorm, not somewhere too far, but somewhere we can all go and make memories. She wants to let her grandkids relive her life.”
