Neighbours fear new home for two vulnerable kids will wreck their mental health

Neighbours have opposed plans for a home for two vulnerable children over fears it may affect their mental health.

Sheffield City Council have approved plans for the home in Waltheof Road near Manor Fields Park in Sheffield despite two letters of objection from neighbours. The letters raised concerns over the impact the development would have on their mental health, anti-social behaviour and increased noise levels.

In a decision notice, officers explained that they accepted the plans from and will allow four carers to join and cater for the children in the house. It means Harmany Havens Supported Living Limited now have permission to convert the three-bedroom townhouse into an Ofsted-registered home for two children in care, aged 10 to 18, with a manager or deputy and two carers who will stay overnight, working on a rota basis.

A report said: “The home will aim to provide a smooth transition for children, who will come to live there through careful planning and consideration.

“It will primarily serve medium to long-term placements in order to minimise disruption to residents.

“There will be no external alterations to the building or surroundings. From the outside, there will be no change in the appearance or character of the dwelling.”
