The real-life Bank of Dave inspiration, Dave Fishwick, has shared insights into the Netflix film based on his story, acknowledging that some parts are ‘slightly magic’.
Dave, a self-made millionaire, launched Burnley Savings and Loans in 2011 to provide loans to those who found it difficult to borrow from larger banks.
Following the success of the original show, Netflix produced a film about the ‘true’ events. Now, with the sequel Bank of Dave 2: The Loan Ranger set for release on Friday, anticipation is high.
The new instalment, which producers call “‘true’-ish”, features Dave, portrayed by Rory Kinnear of James Bond fame, battling against predatory payday loan companies after discovering extortionate interest rates being imposed on locals.

In an appearance on ITV’s popular This Morning show, hosted by Cat Deeley and Ben Shephard, Dave discussed the upcoming film’s narrative, reports the Mirror.
During the interview, Cat queried: “You say in the film that it is a ‘true’ ish film so which bits are ‘true’ and which bits are ish. Did you really get rescued by Def Leppard in one of their private jets?”
To which Dave responded: “That bit is slightly magical, however there is one thing that isn’t ‘true’, Rory is not a bad singer – he is a brilliant singer.”

He elaborated: “When I turn up at the pub to do some karaoke I’m rubbish but everybody expects me to be brilliant because he’s (Rory Kinnear) got all these Grammys and things for singing and acting and I get on stage and I’m rubbish so that’s not ‘true’ I am not a good singer.”
Dave shared the story of how he brought rock icons Def Leppard, known for anthems like Love Bites and Pour Some Sugar on Me, onto his show, saying: “The Talbot pub was right next to Burnley college. That’s where I went and at dinner time I would go down there with my pals and there was a Jukebox there with Def Leppard and I would press it.”
He continued with enthusiasm: “I thought, do you know what ‘wouldn’t it be brilliant if we brought Def Leppard’ and we did. I rang the guys and said ‘will you come over and sing a song in the Talbot pub’ and they said yes so that happened for real and it’s in the film.”
This Morning airs weekdays from 10am on ITV and ITVX and Bank of Dave 2: The Loan Ranger is available to watch on Netflix from Friday, January 10
